Welcome
Many new display gardens have been created to illustrate plant environments – and different plants too of course, to give visitors plenty of ideas and plants to take away with them. Perhaps the most unusual display gardens are two ‘xeric’ sandbeds. Xeric is a North American term meaning very dry. Not entirely the sort of weather we got in 2007 but no doubt we will in the future. The plants in these beds are planted directly into a sandy ballast – no soil at all except about 3 feet down. The plants have come mainly from North America with a few from New Zealand and Britain. They did well this year and we will have to see how they survive the winter and next year. I am going to cover them during the winter to keep the worst of the rain off I hope you will call in to the nursery to see for yourself. We are open much more often this year. The nursery is open Wednesday to Friday 10am to 4pm from All the RHS events held on the nursery during 2007 were fully subscribed so we have increased the number of these events for 2008 (see RHS events) . As these get booked up quickly it is advisable to book early to avoid disappointment – please use the RHS booking line. (I cannot take bookings direct). We are always happy to give information or advice so please ring me if you think I can help. Meanwhile thanks to all of you for your support and we look forward to seeing you in 2008
